3 - 4 large, vine-ripened tomatoes
5 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
Trim tomatoes, cut into thick slices and arrange on a platter. In a small skillet, melt butter over medium-low heat. Add salt, pepper and sugar. Allow to cook, stirring occasionally, until it starts to turn an amber color. Stir in garlic and cook about 10 seconds more. Just before serving, pour warm butter mixture all over tomatoes. Serves 4 - 6.
