Square Spaghetti with Garlic Meatballs
A new twist on an old favorite.
Ingredients
1 pound box spaghetti
1 1/2 pounds ground sirloin
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 cups grated Parmesan cheese, divided
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
3 1/2 cups of your favorite tomato sauce
The Recipe
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Boil spaghetti until al dente. Drain, but do not rinse. Allow to cool.
Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, mix together with your hands sirloin, garlic, 1/2 cup grated Parmesan, egg, oregano and red pepper flakes. Form into 1" meatballs.
In a medium saucepan, bring tomato sauce to a boil. Add meatballs, reduce to simmer and cook ten minutes.
Arrange spaghetti noodles in a 9" x 12" buttered pan. Press down evenly and make sure the noodles go up the side, so it's like a spaghetti 'basket'. Add meatballs and sauce. Top with about 3/4 cup more Parmesan cheese and bake 15 - 20 minutes. Allow to cool slightly before cutting into squares. Serves 6 - 8.
